With the RM 890, the shipyard is now launching another small boat on the market. The design by Marc Lombard is intended to replace the RM 880, which was no longer in the programme of RM Yachts in Périgny near La Rochelle.
The speciality of RM Yachts is the construction method that hardly any other company offers. The shipyard builds multi-buckling chandelles with mutually glued and additionally covered plywood panels. The hull is reinforced with a steel frame. This special process not only guarantees very robust structures, but is also environmentally friendly. Not least because of this, but above all because of its extremely high functionality as a cruising boat combined with brilliant sailing characteristics, the RM 1260 (test in YACHT 14/2012) won the award for European Yacht of the Year 2013.
The small RM 890 will make its debut at the Paris boat show in December 2013. Like all RM boats, it is also available with a conventional fixed keel or with two side-mounted bi-keels. RM's bi-keel concept with reduced draught allows the boats to be easily drained in tidal waters. In addition, the variant with two ballast fins is said to have hardly any disadvantages in terms of performance under sail compared to the deeper fixed keel.
The interior of the RM 890 offers two double berths fore and aft. Additional sleeping space is provided on the benches in the saloon. A wet room with toilet and a kitchenette also ensure unrestricted suitability for touring.
The new RM 890 will be presented for the first time at the trade fair in Paris in December 2013. Dealer Uli Schürg from Blue Yachting in Bremen is quoting a price of 90,000 euros from the La Rochelle shipyard for the market launch. This includes at least one set of upwind sails for around 5,300 euros.
